The Oriental Derby, known for its passionate atmosphere, did not disappoint, as the 20,000-capacity stadium was filled up.

It was a dramatic end to the age-old rivalry between Enugu’s Rangers and Enyimba in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as the derby ended in a dramatic scene at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

The Oriental Derby was on fire until the 98th minute when the match exploded; controversy ensued when Rangers’ striker Godwin Obaje seemingly broke free on goal, only to be brought down by Enyimba’s Pascal Eze – the referee pointed to the spot!

The decision ignited a firestorm as Enyimba fans encroached on the pitch; in a shocking turn of events, the Aba Elephants took the dramatic step of abandoning the match entirely, storming off the pitch and leaving the outcome hanging in the balance.
