Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has responded to the backlash on social media over her support for President Bola Tinubu, clarifying that she did not campaign or ask anyone to vote. She explained, “I think the problem is because maybe I’m too open and too plain. I shouldn’t have said anything. People learn every day; maybe I should have done what others did and not said anything. You know when you love your fans so much and you feel like they’re your family now and you don’t want to sit on the fence or be a hypocrite, but I promise after today this is the last time I’m going to talk about it. If anyone wants to say anything, let them say.”
When asked about the president’s performance after one year in office, she declined to comment, stating, “I don’t want to talk about politics. I am not a politician.”
This response comes after significant criticism from Nigerians, who have held her accountable for her public support of the president during the elections. Critics argue that under Tinubu, the dollar’s value has increased, fuel prices have risen, and the economy has deteriorated further. On June 4, 2024, following a heated exchange with users on social media platform X, Abraham broke down in tears, expressing her frustration over the continuous negative comments, saying, “Enough is enough.”
