“THIS IS THE FIRST TIME DOING IT THIS BIG AFTER ALMOST 7 YEARS” – DANIEL ORIAHI

< 1 mn read

Daniel Oriahi, the director of The Weekend, revealed that this new film marks his most significant project since his last major work nearly seven years ago. Known for his expertise in psychological thrillers, Oriahi expressed his excitement about returning to the spotlight with a film that has already garnered international attention, including being the only Nollywood film selected for screening at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.

Reflecting on his career, Oriahi shared that he always aimed to create films with global appeal while still resonating with Nigerian audiences. He emphasized the intentional discomfort embedded in The Weekend, designed to keep viewers on edge, and hopes it will spark meaningful discussions post-viewing.

The film follows Nikiya, an orphaned woman seeking belonging, who uncovers dark secrets within her fiancé’s seemingly perfect family. The cast includes Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, and others. Oriahi intends to continue exploring similar dynamics in his future projects.
