< 1 mn read

Nigerian singer Seun Kuti recently shared insights into his close relationship with his father, the legendary Fela Kuti, describing it as akin to winning a lottery.

In a recent episode of the Zero Conditions podcast, Seun expressed his deep admiration for his father, calling him his best friend and favorite person in the world, despite only having 14 years with him before Fela’s passing.

“I won the daddy lottery,” Seun said with a laugh. “My father is still my favorite person in the world. Even though I only spent 14 years with him, they were 14 awesome years. He was my best friend and everything; he was a cool dad to me.”

Seun also touched on his privileged upbringing, humorously revealing that he has never done laundry in his life. “You don’t know how spoiled I was growing up. Up till now, I still haven’t done laundry in my life, I still don’t know how to wash anything,” he admitted. He recounted a moment from his childhood when, while sleeping on a British Airways flight, the thought of washing clothes briefly worried him, only for him to remember washing machines and drift back to sleep.

Seun’s reflections highlight not just his deep connection with his father, but also the fond memories and unique experiences that shaped his early life.
