The All Progressives Congress Reform Group (APCRG) has strongly advocated against granting automatic tickets to defecting members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who recently joined the APC. In a statement issued by Moses Eguono, the National President of APCRG, the group emphasized the importance of selecting only credible candidates who align with the party’s principles and philosophy to contest the upcoming by-elections for the vacant seats.
The statement, released in Abuja on Saturday, praised the Appeal Court’s decision to uphold the removal of Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the APC. Eguono described the ruling as a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and political integrity, affirming the judiciary’s role in safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic processes.
Highlighting the group’s stance, Eguono stressed that APCRG expects the APC leadership to prepare to field candidates once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) schedules the by-elections. He reiterated that these candidates must not only meet the party’s standards but also share a vision for advancing Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.
Eguono concluded by commending the judiciary for upholding constitutional principles and ensuring the robustness of Nigerian democracy. He reaffirmed APCRG’s commitment to supporting candidates who prioritize the party’s values and contribute to its objectives of good governance and development.
