Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State announced the replacement of 23 local government chairmen in a state broadcast on Tuesday, June 18. Following this announcement, he submitted a list of nominees for the caretaker committee chairmen to the Rivers State House of Assembly, headed by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo.
The Assembly scheduled the screening and confirmation of these nominees for Wednesday, June 19, starting at 8 am. The nominees were required to bring 12 sets of their credentials, both originals and photocopies, as per the statement from the Clerk of the House. This process was conducted in accordance with Section 9 (5) of the Rivers State Local Government Law.
