Renowned Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has questioned the conventional views of God and religion as depicted by Western and Abrahamic traditions.
In a recent episode of the Zero Conditions Podcast, Kuti criticized the portrayal of God in these religions, referring to what he described as the “white God” of these traditions. He argued that such a depiction is problematic and questioned its validity.
“I don’t believe in God as portrayed by Western and Abrahamic religions, which is often depicted as a white man,” Kuti stated. “If this God were living among us, no one would like him; someone constantly watching you and dictating your every move for 5,000 years without any form of election? Try spending just 15 years on the throne and listen to the complaints about needing a new election.”
Kuti also criticized what he sees as the negative portrayal of women in the Bible, using figures like Eve, Delilah, and Jezebel as examples. He argued, “If you envision your God as a white man with white hair, beard, and a white robe, you’re lost.”
Additionally, Kuti asserted that according to Revelations, Africans are not destined for heaven but rather for servitude. “Revelations has already made it clear that African people will not make it to heaven. Only 12,000 people from each of the 12 tribes of Judea, totaling 144,000, would enter heaven. The rest will be relegated to servitude in the temple. So, slavery is already secured for you,” he said.
