Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have prevented an American citizen from attempting suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge. The RRS shared this information via its official Twitter handle, @rrsLagos767, on Monday.

According to the RRS, the American citizen, whose identity was withheld, was restrained from jumping into the lagoon at 1:23 pm on Monday. He was in his early 30s and had been driven to the Third Mainland Bridge by his partner, along with their daughter.

Unaware of his intentions, his partner parked the car while he walked towards the edge of the bridge. A passerby who noticed his behavior alerted patrolling RRS officers, who intervened just in time to prevent the suicide attempt. They then reunited the man with his partner before taking them to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa.

CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, the RRS Commander, offered advice to the man and his family. He directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Department of the Lagos Police Command for further counseling and necessary actions.
