The Nigeria Police Force has declared Andrew Wynne, a British national also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, wanted for allegedly orchestrating a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
DETAILS OF THE ALLEGATIONS
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Wynne is accused of renting a space at Labour House in Abuja under the pretense of operating an ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and setting up ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ as a cover for his subversive activities. The police allege that Wynne was involved in planning and financing the August protests, which were part of a broader conspiracy to destabilize Nigeria and instigate an unconstitutional regime change.
INVESTIGATION AND ARRESTS
A comprehensive investigation has been launched into Wynne’s activities and those involved in the conspiracy. The police have apprehended nine suspects who received significant financial backing from foreign sources to destabilize the country. Evidence, including documents and confessions, has reportedly linked Wynne to the violent protests, where he allegedly provided operational guidance and financial support.
ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENTS
The police have also summoned Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in connection with Wynne’s activities. This move follows the recent detention of Polish nationals in Kano by the Department of State Services (DSS) during the protests, who were later released after weeks of detention.
