Police Declare British National Andrew Wynne Wanted for Alleged Attempt to Overthrow Tinubu
The Nigerian Police have issued a wanted notice for British national Andrew Wynne, accusing him of attempting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu through the alleged sponsorship of the #EndBadgovernance protests held from August 1 to 10. According to ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, has fled the country. He and his local coordinator, Lucky Ehis Obiyan, are the subjects of a global manhunt.
The police claim Wynne was involved in orchestrating and funding violent protests, spreading misinformation, and engaging in unlawful activities aimed at destabilizing Nigeria. The investigation has led to the apprehension of nine suspects, who are facing charges including criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, and treasonable felony. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has activated INTERPOL and other global networks to locate and apprehend the fugitives, emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding national security and democratic integrity.
