The Yobe State Police Command announced the capture of Haruna Mohammed, a 40-year-old believed to be the leader of a notorious terrorist gang that has been terrorizing residents. The arrest was carried out by the State Intelligence Department (SID) on June 16 in Nangillam, a village in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
Command spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim revealed that Mohammed was apprehended following an intensive intelligence operation. Mohammed has been involved in extorting money and valuables from victims through menacing phone calls, often threatening to kill them and their families if his demands were not met. One victim from Siminti village reported that Mohammed demanded ₦3 million and issued death threats against him and his family.
During interrogation, Mohammed confessed to his crimes and identified other members of his syndicate, who are currently being pursued by the police. Abdulkarim urged communities to report any security breaches promptly and assured the public of the command’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in Yobe State.
