President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the need for a change in the value system among Nigerians to address the nation’s current challenges. Speaking in Lagos when he received a delegation from the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu urged citizens to adopt a more productive mindset and abandon rent-seeking behaviors.
Tinubu stressed the importance of combating economic sabotage, such as smuggling and the theft of infrastructure like rail tracks and electric cables, which undermine the nation’s economy. He called for a collective effort to shift mindsets and embrace a campaign to change the value system.
The President also commended the National Assembly’s leadership for their support, which he credited with enabling significant developments under his administration. He acknowledged the severe hardships faced by Nigerians, including poverty and suffering, and reassured the nation of his commitment to addressing these issues. Tinubu highlighted the need to eliminate banditry and terrorism to ensure farmers can safely produce and transport food, thereby reducing wastage and its associated costs.
Following the meeting, Senate President Akpabio spoke to journalists, noting the delegation’s visit was to pay homage and express gratitude for Tinubu’s leadership. Akpabio mentioned that the National Assembly would focus on improving the ease of doing business in Nigeria through legislative reforms.
