The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano State Command has reported a significant interception of illicit drugs and subsequent arrests ahead of the Eid-el Kabir celebration. Between June 10 and June 13, the command intercepted a total of 230,600 tablets of Tramadol along the Zaria-Kano road. This operation was part of the agency’s efforts, mandated by its Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba-Marwa, to combat drug abuse in Nigeria.
Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad disclosed that the operation led to the arrest of 106 suspects, including 11 major drug dealers. The arrests took place at various drug hotspots in Kano, including Sani Abacha Stadium, Karkasara, Sani Abacha Youth Center, Dorayi, Dan-Agundi graveyard, Brigade Mini Stadium, and the notorious Filin Idi drug den.
In addition to the Tramadol tablets, the NDLEA also seized other illicit substances such as Cannabis sativa (marijuana), rubber solution, suck and die (a local cocktail of drugs), exol tablets, and codeine syrup. These substances were intended for distribution and use during the Eid-el Kabir celebrations.
Commander Idris-Ahmad emphasized the NDLEA’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in Kano State. He urged the public to collaborate by reporting any drug-related activities to the nearest NDLEA office, aiming to create a safer and healthier community.
The NDLEA’s proactive measures underscore its dedication to curbing the menace of drug abuse, particularly during festive periods when such activities tend to escalate.
