### Namadi Recruits 300 Health Workers to Address Animal Diseases in Jigawa State

The Jigawa State Government has recruited 300 Community-Based Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) to provide mobile veterinary services across the state’s 287 wards. This initiative aligns with Governor Umar Namadi’s development agenda for sustained agricultural transformation in the state.

At the inauguration ceremony in Dutse, Governor Namadi explained that these workers will help control and prevent the spread of animal diseases by offering mobile veterinary clinic services. Each health worker will receive a motorcycle equipped with a medical toolbox, vaccination kits, a drug box, and other accessories to provide routine and emergency veterinary services. Additionally, the recruits have been licensed as veterinary service providers to effectively respond to animal disease incidents, even in remote areas.

This recruitment is part of the state government’s J-Agro Agricultural Extension Agents Programme, which has enlisted 1,440 youths to offer agricultural extension services to farmers. Governor Namadi highlighted the state’s competitive advantages in both crop production and livestock development. He also mentioned the goat breeding microcredit programme, which recently empowered 1,640 women in four LGAs with three goats each, with plans to extend the programme to the remaining 11 LGAs.

The President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Dr. Aishatu Abubakar, represented by Dr. Helen Ego, commended the governor for this initiative. She noted that it will enhance food and feed safety and security in the state, while also helping to control the migration of Nigerians out of the country due to insecurity and lack of opportunities.

This initiative represents a significant effort to protect and develop the livestock population in Jigawa State, contributing to the overall agricultural and economic growth of the region.
