Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has voiced strong support for Liverpool’s Premier League title ambitions this season. Richards, speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast, believes Liverpool is now a serious contender for the English top-flight title, following a season where they fell short.
Liverpool’s impressive start to the 2024/25 season has been a key factor in Richards’ assessment. The team is currently in second place in the Premier League table, level on points with leaders Manchester City but trailing on goal difference. They have won all their first three matches, demonstrating a strong early form.
Richards highlighted the depth and quality of Liverpool’s squad as crucial elements in their title challenge. He noted the significant impact of new signing Federico Chiesa, whom he described as “outstanding,” and praised Cody Gakpo for his performances, including a strong showing in the Euros. Richards also pointed out improvements in Liverpool’s defensive discipline and the potent attacking options available to manager Jürgen Klopp.
“I think they are serious now about challenging for the title,” Richards said. “The reason I say that is because they seem more disciplined defensively and they have got firepower up front. They are challengers now.” His comments underscore Liverpool’s enhanced prospects and their potential to vie for the Premier League crown this season.
