The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered that 21 candidates used fake IJMB results for admission during the 2023 academic session. This follows JAMB’s 2021 launch of the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform designed to combat result forgery.
DISCOVERY AND IMPACT: JAMB found that 21 candidates with forged IJMB results were recommended for admission, though none were ultimately accepted. The issue involves five institutions, with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, being notably implicated. Twelve of the 21 candidates were recommended by ABU Zaria.
SCREENING ISSUES: The fraudulent admissions resulted from weak certificate screening procedures at the involved institutions. JAMB highlighted that all certificates should be signed by the institution’s head (Vice-Chancellor, Provost, or Rector).
JAMB’S RESPONSE: JAMB has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding educational standards and addressing fraud. The board has introduced measures and plans further actions to safeguard the admission process and maintain the integrity of the education system.
