The Federal Government has ordered the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, along with other military chiefs, to relocate to Sokoto State as part of intensified efforts to eliminate banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the North-West region.

This directive, outlined in a statement by Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, emphasizes the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the area. The move reflects deep concern over the ongoing threat posed by these criminal activities.

While stationed in the North-West, Matawalle and the military leaders will oversee operations aimed at eradicating the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji and his gang. Matawalle highlighted a recent incident where bandits circulated videos of a Nigerian military armored vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area, Zamfara State, which they later celebrated. He stressed that such incidents are unacceptable and reiterated the strong support President Bola Tinubu has given to the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Matawalle assured the residents of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and the entire North-West region that the security forces are committed to flushing out the bandits. He emphasized the need for immediate action to allow people to move freely and declared that the time is up for these criminal elements.

“I will be on the ground in the North-West with the CDS and other military chiefs, leading our brave men and women in uniform. I also call on residents of these states to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces as the Federal Government has resolved to protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians,” Matawalle added.

The minister further affirmed that the security and well-being of the people remain the government’s top priority.
