The Eko Care Initiative, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Administration, continues to deliver on its promise to enhance the lives of Lagosians. Through its Alaafia Eko Healthcare Intervention and Ounje Eko Food Security scheme, the initiative has made significant strides in health and nutrition across the state.
Alaafia Eko: Comprehensive Healthcare for Lagosians
The Alaafia Eko program has successfully provided accessible and high-quality healthcare across six health districts in Lagos. This initiative has been instrumental in delivering health insurance and free medical outreach, offering a broad range of services including general consultations, maternal and child healthcare, immunizations, and health education.
- Phase 1 and Phase 2: The program operated with four locations per district in Phase 1 and two locations per district in Phase 2, ensuring widespread coverage and accessibility.
- Impact: By August 2024, over 19,000 residents had benefited from the program, with more than 8,000 individuals receiving eyeglasses. The community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many residents expressing gratitude for the much-needed medical care.
Ounje Eko: Ensuring Food Security Amid Economic Challenges
The Ounje Eko scheme addresses hunger and food security issues, particularly amidst rising living costs. The program, now in its second phase, has already reached over 250,000 beneficiaries, providing essential food items at discounted rates.
- Key Components:
- Direct Food Distribution: Providing staple foods like garri, beans, and rice to vulnerable households.
- Ounje Eko Free Meal Programme: Ensuring that the most vulnerable individuals receive at least one free meal per day.
- Ounje Eko Sunday Markets: Offering food items at a 25% discount across 58 locations in Lagos, helping residents manage financial burdens.
- Impact: During Phase 1, the program distributed significant quantities of food, including 125,560 kg of rice, 43,637 kg of beans, 50,028 kg of garri, 222,881 loaves of bread, and 173,480 crates of eggs.
Expansion and Ongoing Support
As Phase 2 of Ounje Eko rolls out, the initiative plans to expand the Sunday Markets, potentially opening more locations to serve even more residents. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration remains committed to maintaining the 25% discount on all food items sold at these markets.
The Eko Cares Initiative exemplifies the state government’s dedication to supporting Lagosians, providing vital assistance amid challenging economic conditions. Residents are encouraged to visit the Ounje Eko Sunday Markets to benefit from these impactful programs and stay updated on further developments.
