< 1 mn read

The Niger Government has taken proactive steps to address the crisis between Dukku and Fulani communities in Rijau Local Government Area by inaugurating a 13-member committee. Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the Niger Government (SSG), inaugurated the committee in Minna, emphasizing that its members are individuals of proven integrity and honesty. He urged them to approach their duties with sincerity and diligence.

The committee’s primary task is to investigate the crisis comprehensively. This includes tracing its historical background, identifying the immediate and remote causes, and documenting the victims from both communities. Moreover, the committee is mandated to provide far-reaching recommendations aimed at preventing the recurrence of similar crises across Niger State.

The committee is chaired by Alhaji Nairu Mua’zu, the Commissioner for Justice. Other members include commissioners responsible for Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, Health, Homeland Security, and Local Government. Additionally, it comprises the House of Assembly member representing Rijau State Constituency, the Special Adviser on Security, the Chairman of Rijau LGA, representatives from the Commissioner of Police, and the Kontagora Emirate Council.

The Secretary I and II roles are filled by the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry for Local Government and those of Homeland Security and Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs, respectively. The committee has been given a tight deadline of two weeks to submit its findings and recommendations.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security for all residents of Niger State, regardless of their backgrounds, and demonstrates a proactive approach to resolving community conflicts through thorough investigation and inclusive dialogue.
