Nollywood directors Tolu Ajayi and Abiola Sobo are collaborating on a new Showmax original drama series titled “Princess on a Hill,” set to premiere in November 2024. The announcement was made at the 2024 MIP Africa in Cape Town, a major festival celebrating African television, music, and film.
“Princess on a Hill” follows Zara, a young woman who, after winning the prestigious Lawson Group’s Leading Ladies reality show, finds herself thrust into the cutthroat world of high-stakes business. She must navigate corporate politics, power struggles, and personal ambition while facing off against the company’s tyrannical CEO, Moyosore Lawson.
The series promises a compelling exploration of power, ambition, and the cost of success, with themes of corporate intrigue and personal growth. Ajayi describes the project as a modern African iteration of a mythical tale, blending elements of boardroom politics with the familiar motifs of mythical storytelling.
Ajayi and Sobo’s collaboration is expected to deliver a high-quality production, reflecting the rich textures of African cinema. The series features a stellar cast including Onyinye Odokoro, Bimbo Manuel, Efa Iwara, Ireti Doyle, and Femi Jacobs. The production team includes Chuka Ejorh and Shayo Oke-Sobo as co-executive producers, with Bibi Ukpo as the Head Writer.
Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels at MultiChoice West Africa, emphasized that the series is a high-quality production designed to offer an authentic Nigerian storytelling experience, showcasing the creativity and talent in African film.
