The Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Communities Development Association (CONECDA) has called on the National Assembly to investigate the recent mass termination of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) employees. Mr. Paul Dekete, the North Central Coordinator of CONECDA’s Youth Wing, issued this plea in a statement released on Sunday in Jos. Dekete criticized the dismissal process, particularly concerning the affected workers, many of whom held senior positions such as directors, deputy directors, and assistant directors. He argued that the dismissals, which impacted 16 departments, were conducted in violation of the bank’s established procedures. Dekete emphasized that the terminated personnel possessed extensive experience and expertise crucial for the advancement of the apex financial institution.
He urged the National Assembly to scrutinize the CBN’s actions, seeking clarity on the rationale behind the mass layoffs and the criteria used. Dekete emphasized the importance of adhering to established HR protocols and global best practices for staff reductions. He called for the withdrawal of the insensitive termination letters and their replacement with appropriate documentation reflecting the employees’ work records. Dekete also appealed to lawmakers to ensure that unjustly dismissed employees are reinstated and provided with fair compensation to alleviate the economic hardships resulting from the management’s decision.
