The Commander and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Seni Ogunyemi, has issued a stern warning to residents against the practice of blocking roads for social gatherings or events. Ogunyemi emphasized that such actions are illegal and punishable under the law.

In a statement released on Thursday, Ogunyemi reiterated that it is against the law to obstruct public roads for the purpose of organizing parties or social events. He clarified that even if residents claim to have obtained permits from local or state governments, it does not justify blocking public roads.

Highlighting the importance of curbing this lawless behavior, Ogunyemi stressed the need for continuous public enlightenment. He emphasized that while TRACE officers focus more on sensitization efforts than enforcement, it is crucial to address the issue of road blockages to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during social gatherings.

Referring to the relevant sections of the law that established TRACE, Ogunyemi reiterated the agency’s commitment to upholding traffic regulations and maintaining order on the roads. He emphasized that the primary goal of TRACE is not revenue generation but rather ensuring compliance with traffic laws for the safety and well-being of all road users.

Additionally, Ogunyemi highlighted that individuals caught engaging in such illegal activities may face consequences beyond traffic penalties. He mentioned the possibility of referring offenders to other agencies, such as the Ministry of Health, for psychiatric evaluation, underscoring the seriousness with which TRACE views road obstruction for social events.

Overall, Ogunyemi’s warning underscores the importance of respecting traffic regulations and the rule of law, while also emphasizing the need for public cooperation in maintaining order and safety on the roads.
