The Nigeria Police Force has accused Andrew Wynn, a British national, of evading arrest following allegations of subversive activities and terrorism financing. Wynn, who has been declared wanted, reportedly ignored multiple police invitations for questioning and has since left Nigeria.
Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi expressed frustration over Wynn’s refusal to cooperate. “Mr. Wynn was invited several times to answer questions regarding the allegations against him, but he refused to honor the invitations. Subsequently, he left the country to avoid arrest,” Adejobi stated during a press briefing in Abuja.
In response, Wynn, in an exclusive interview with Channels Television on September 2, denied any wrongdoing. “I am not aware that I am a fugitive, nor am I running away from the law. I have been visiting Nigeria for 25 years and have operated a bookshop in Abuja for seven years without any issues with the security forces,” Wynn said. He expressed his willingness to cooperate, suggesting communication through WhatsApp, Zoom, or a meeting with officials from the Nigerian High Commission in London.
Wynn’s Nigerian wife defended him, alleging that the accusations are rooted in a personal dispute rather than any attempt to overthrow the government. She claimed that a Nigerian man, who owes her husband money, is behind the move to have Wynn removed from Nigeria. “We have been together for nine years, and my husband is being falsely accused. This is not about terrorism; it’s about someone trying to avoid paying a debt,” she asserted. She also clarified that Wynn is currently in the UK due to the need to temporarily leave Nigeria as part of his visit visa requirements, not to escape legal action.
The police have not yet issued additional statements regarding Wynn’s status or any ongoing investigation into the matter.
