TROOPS DISABLE MRAPS STUCK IN ZAMFARA FOREST TO THWART TERRORIST USE – DHQ

< 1 mn read

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported that Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, depicted in a viral video as destroyed by terrorists, were actually immobilized by Nigerian troops after becoming stuck in a swampy area in Zamfara Forest. This occurred during an August 29 operation aimed at dislodging terrorists in Kwashabawa Village, Zurmi Local Government Area.

OPERATION DETAILS: According to Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the MRAPs were bogged down due to rainy conditions, and despite efforts to recover them, troops were forced to disable the vehicles to prevent them from falling into terrorist hands.

FAKE VIDEO CLARIFICATION: Buba also addressed a viral video falsely claiming mass killings in Sokoto, confirming that the incident occurred in another African country, not Nigeria. He warned the public against misinformation and fake news propagated by terrorists to mislead and demoralize.
