Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has expressed indifference towards the social media criticism directed at him, declaring he is unconcerned by the interpretations of his posts.
El-Rufai, who also served as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, dismissed the negative and abusive feedback on his social media activity as unfounded and inconsequential. He made his stance clear in a post on his verified X account on August 31, 2024.
“Interpret, mis-interpret or re-interpret any posts by me or any other as you wish. I frankly don’t give a damn,” El-Rufai stated. “Abuse and insult with no basis. By all means, pass your judgment in ignorance and bigotry. Nothing will change. What will be will be, in sha Allah.”
The former governor faced backlash for a recent comment he made on social media addressing issues of envy and hatred within Nigerian politics. In his post, he cited the election of Kamala Harris as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate as an example and criticized the declining competence and commitment among Nigerian political leaders.
El-Rufai’s remarks were met with criticism from figures like Bamikole Omishore, an aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who accused El-Rufai of lacking the moral authority to criticize envy and hatred, referencing past incidents involving the former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
