Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has expressed gratitude to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his condemnation of Amaka Patience Sunnberger’s threats against Yoruba and Bini people in Canada.

Sunnberger’s comments, made during a TikTok live session, had sparked widespread outrage on social media. In a viral audio clip, she threatened to poison members of these ethnic groups, claiming they were harmful to society and should be eliminated.

Following the controversy, Dabiri-Erewa shared Sunnberger’s photo on X (formerly Twitter) to aid in her identification. Atiku Abubakar later condemned the threats, emphasizing the need for national unity and commending the swift actions taken by NiDCOM and the House of Representatives to address the situation.

In her response, Dabiri-Erewa thanked Atiku for his support and acknowledgment of her agency’s efforts. She quoted Atiku’s statement on X, expressing her appreciation for his praise.

Earlier, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, also condemned Sunnberger’s remarks, calling them “bigotry taken too far” and urging Nigerians to focus on competence and unity for national progress.
