Edo State has confirmed a single case of Mpox out of 11 suspected cases reported between January and August 2024. Dr. Stephenson Ojeifo, Director of Public Health at the Edo State Ministry of Health, shared that the confirmed case was among three suspected cases identified in August.

The confirmed patient, from Esan West Local Government Area, was discharged and is reported to be in good health. The patient had been admitted prior to sample collection, and contact tracing has not revealed any additional cases.

Of the 11 samples sent to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja, 10 results have been returned, with one remaining result pending due to logistical issues related to sample collection in Delta State.

Dr. Ojeifo emphasized that the state is enhancing its surveillance and maintaining strict border controls to prevent further cases.
