The Boston Celtics clinched their 18th NBA Championship on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, ending a 16-year title drought by defeating the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden. The victory sealed the series 4-1, with Jaylen Brown earning the Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for his outstanding performance, averaging 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5 assists per game in the Finals. Jayson Tatum also delivered a stellar performance, recording a double-double with 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists in the decisive game.

To celebrate the NBA Finals, NBA Africa hosted watch parties in four cities: Lagos, Nigeria; Nairobi, Kenya; Johannesburg and Durban, South Africa. Fans gathered to watch the games, participate in activities like NBA2K, basketball arcade games, and enjoy photo opportunities. Despite the Celtics losing Game 4, these events brought together fans across the continent to celebrate the sport and witness the Celtics’ historic championship win.
