Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has accused Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, of spreading false information regarding the purchase of a new presidential jet for President Bola Tinubu. Omokri labeled Obi’s claims as a “Gbajue lie,” asserting that the Nigerian government has no plans to acquire a new jet for Tinubu and that the proposal to replace the presidential jet did not originate from the presidency.
Peter Obi had criticized the idea of purchasing new presidential jets amid widespread poverty in Nigeria. He expressed his disapproval on his official X account, calling the consideration of such an acquisition insensitive to the suffering of Nigerians.
In response, Omokri clarified that the proposal came from the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, not from the executive branch. He accused Obi of misleading the public by not providing the full context and history of the recommendations and criticized Obi for previously misrepresenting facts regarding government expenditures.
Omokri emphasized that Obi’s assertions rely on the public’s gullibility and lack of research, which enables the spread of misinformation.
