A man in Denmark has been sentenced to life imprisonment and subsequent preventive detention after fatally stabbing a heavily pregnant woman in 2016, according to the district court in Glostrup. The 30-year-old man committed this brutal act by stabbing the woman 11 times with a knife in a park near Copenhagen, and additionally mutilating her by cutting off a piece of her nose, as stated in the court’s announcement.
Despite denying the crime, the man’s defense lawyer has indicated plans to appeal the judgement. The case lacked key technical evidence such as the murder weapon, fingerprints, or DNA linking the suspect directly to the crime scene.
In 2020, police deployed an undercover investigator who posed as a cellmate to the suspect, who was already serving a prison sentence for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend. This undercover operation captured the man’s confession to the murder of the pregnant woman, which significantly influenced the court’s decision to convict him.
The sentencing marks the culmination of an eight-year legal process, during which the defendant maintained his innocence amid mounting circumstantial evidence.
