Akpabio, the Senate President, firmly denied the circulating posters suggesting he would run for the 2027 presidential election alongside former Kaduna State governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, dismissing them as the work of troublemakers. In a statement released on Wednesday, June 12, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio clarified that he harbors no plans or aspirations to contest for the presidency in 2027 with El-Rufai or anyone else.
The statement emphasized, “This is the handiwork of mischief makers and familiar fifth columnists and those bent on opening up windows for tar brushing of the President’s loyalists. The action is spurious and mischievous.”
Eyiboh assured the public that Akpabio remains fully committed to his legislative duties and is actively collaborating with Tinubu to advance the country’s developmental goals.
“Senator Akpabio is presently preoccupied with the responsibility of collaborating and providing the required legislative support to President Bola Tinubu to reset Nigeria and make the nation regain its pride of place in the comity of nations,” the statement affirmed.
Akpabio urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those behind the misleading posters. He also called on Nigerians to ignore the deceptive campaign, describing it as an attempt to divert attention from the positive initiatives and interventions being pursued by the Senate under his leadership.
“We implore members of the public to disregard this unbridled mischief intended to distract Nigerians from the purposeful and positive interventions the Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio is demonstrating,” the statement concluded.
