Tems has made history as the Nigerian female artist with the highest streaming day on Spotify. This milestone comes on the heels of her debut album release, “Born In The Wild,” on June 7, 2024.
On that day, propelled by the album’s launch, Tems amassed an impressive 8 million streams on Spotify, setting a new benchmark for Nigerian female artists. Additionally, her debut album’s opening day garnered 5.33 million global streams, positioning her second only to Ayra Starr, who achieved 6.3 million streams for her recent sophomore album, “The Year I Turned 21.”
Tems catapulted to international acclaim in 2021 following her standout performances on Wizkid’s global hit, “Essence,” solidifying her status as one of the fastest-rising artists worldwide.
“Born In The Wild,” featuring 18 tracks and collaborations with Nigerian star Asake and American rapper J Cole, has been eagerly anticipated. Prior to the album’s release, Tems released two singles, “Me & U” and “Love Me Jeje,” amassing over 99 million and 32 million streams, respectively. These successes underscore her superstar status, and her debut album is poised to be a commercial triumph.
Tems has previously made waves in the Nigerian music scene, securing her place in history as the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy Award in 2022 for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her contribution to Future’s “Wait For U” alongside Drake. Furthermore, she made history as the first Nigerian artist nominated for an Oscar for her work on the soundtrack for Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
