The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) successfully targeted and destroyed two illegal refining sites along the Imo River on Saturday. According to AVM Edward Gabkwet, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, this operation was part of Operation Delta Safe and took place just hours after Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, discussed establishing an NAF base in Abia with Governor Alex Otti. The illegal sites, located near Obiaku and the Imo-Abia-Rivers borders, contained multiple tanks and reservoirs. The airstrikes were authorized and carried out, resulting in the destruction of both sites. Gabkwet emphasized that this operation highlights the need for a NAF base in Abia and reinforces NAF’s commitment to maintaining aerial dominance and collaborating with ground forces to ensure the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.
