Joshua Olawuyi, a suspected internet fraudster, has been apprehended by operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining a vehicle under false pretenses and stealing ₦30 million. The Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

According to Ayuba, the arrest was made following a petition received from Adesuwa Ogizie, a US-based licensed car dealer. The petitioner alleged that in 2016, Olawuyi contacted her to purchase a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 valued at ₦30 million. Olawuyi purportedly claimed that his brother, Jude Hanslem, would make payment on his behalf.

After the vehicle was delivered to Olawuyi in Nigeria, Ogizie discovered that the money deposited into her account was obtained through fraudulent means. A team of detectives attached to the Zonal Anti-Kidnapping Unit Zone 2 command, led by SP Abass Gadzama (O/C ZAKU), promptly swung into action and apprehended the suspect.

During interrogation, Olawuyi confessed to the crime, admitting involvement in internet fraud at the time of the offense. He revealed that the Mercedes Benz GLE 350 had been sold and the proceeds converted. The investigation is ongoing, and further findings will be communicated. Upon completion of the investigation, the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.
