“Former APC National Vice Chairman Criticizes Party’s Performance, Says Some Elected Governments Worse than Military Rule”

Salihu Moh. Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman, Northwest, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly criticized his party for failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians over the past nine years.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lukman expressed his disappointment with the APC, stating that the party has dashed the hopes of Nigerians since assuming power. He highlighted that the situation has worsened to the extent that some elected governments, both at the federal and state levels, perform even worse than military rulers.

Lukman lamented the deteriorating welfare conditions of Nigerians, increased unemployment, and poverty indices, despite 25 years of democratic rule since 1999. He criticized the poor management of national resources, which has resulted in a crisis of insecurity and threats to human lives becoming the new normal.

Expressing his commitment to progressive politics, Lukman acknowledged the necessity of recognizing challenges based on a correct assessment of realities. He admitted that the APC, as a party founded with the vision of becoming progressive, has fallen short of its ideals.

Lukman accused the APC leadership of failing to adhere to its own constitution, holding meetings, or being accountable to its members. He noted that since coming into power in 2015, the party has abandoned its manifesto, with decisions on appointments and policies being solely made by the president and governors.

Comparing the situation to military rule, Lukman criticized the lack of consultation and participation of party leaders and members in governance processes, likening them to distant observers.

In conclusion, Lukman called for a reevaluation of Nigeria’s democratic reality and urged for creative initiatives to address the country’s challenges. He emphasized the need for honest criticisms and taking responsibility to effect positive change.
