Nigerian music icon 2Baba, also known as Innocent Idibia, recently shared insights into his unexpected journey into reality television with Netflix’s “Young, Famous & African.” In an interview with Amatel Softgel on the Gamechanger Series, 2Baba revealed that his participation in the reality show was driven by love rather than personal interest in reality TV.
According to 2Baba, he had never watched a reality TV show before being involved in one. He admitted that he didn’t do any research beforehand and had never imagined himself participating in such a format. His decision to join the show was motivated purely by his willingness to embrace new experiences for the sake of love.
Reflecting on his experience on “Young, Famous & African,” 2Baba described it as “interesting.” He found the behind-the-scenes process of putting the show together intriguing, although he humorously confessed that he struggled with the idea of portraying a less authentic version of himself for the sake of the reality TV format.
“I don’t know how to not be real in a reality show so I think I was the most boring person in that whole setup,” 2Baba joked. This authenticity, while challenging in the context of reality TV, highlighted his commitment to being genuine and true to himself even in a curated television environment.
“Young, Famous & African,” which premiered on Netflix in 2022, featured a diverse cast of African stars including 2Baba, Annie Macaulay-Idibia, Diamond Platnumz, Khanyi Mbau, Zari the Boss Lady, and others from across the continent. The show aimed to provide viewers with a glimpse into the lives of these celebrities, showcasing their personal and professional journeys in a reality TV format.
Despite his initial reservations and lack of familiarity with the genre, 2Baba’s participation in “Young, Famous & African” underscored his openness to new experiences and his enduring commitment to authenticity, both as a public figure and as an artist revered across Africa and beyond.
