About 15 people sustained injuries in a multiple vehicle collision that occurred at Ketu, heading towards Ojota in Lagos state. The incident involved a BRT bus, an articulated truck carrying a 40-feet container, and an 18-seater yellow commercial bus.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the details in a statement provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday. The accident was reported through Lagos state’s toll-free emergency numbers, 767 and 112, prompting a swift response from LASEMA’s Response Team at the Command and Control Centre (C3) in Alausa.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the articulated truck lost control while heading towards Ketu, leading to a collision with the BRT bus, which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Ojota. Subsequently, the BRT bus veered into the service lane and collided with the yellow commercial bus.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities recorded, and the injuries sustained were not critical. However, the vehicles involved suffered significant damage, with the BRT bus sustaining damage to both its front and rear ends, and the truck’s tractor head also being affected.
Emergency responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Ambulance Service attended to the injured victims at the scene, providing necessary pre-hospital care before transporting them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Collaborating with officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), LASEMA activated road traffic control measures to divert vehicles safely and facilitate the removal of the damaged vehicles from the road. The articulated truck was towed to the LASTMA yard in Oshodi, while the BRT bus was recovered to the BRT yard in Ojota. The yellow commercial bus was driven away by its owner.
Following the clearance of the road, normal vehicular activities resumed without obstruction.
